Race Two, Silverstone
Conditions were only slightly drier for the second race of the day at Silverstone, which meant conditions were as hazardous as ever.
John George managed to control the Integra throughout this race and handle the conditions extremely well. A problem with the throttle meant he came out of an early corner too late, making contact with Matt Jackson and sustaining some cosmetic damage to the car’s front bumper. (Andy Whitaker said: “It’s wasn’t a serious bump and it’s certainly nothing a bit of magic tape won’t sort out.”)
The wet track meant several drivers lost control of their vehicles and retired without finishing the race; and Team JAG made the decision to keep John George in the race, despite throttle and under-steering issues, for the sake of a higher place finish.
“This was the right decision.” Said John’s driving coach, John Pratt, “He finished in 15th place despite a slippery track, throttle and steering issues and some serious collisions going on around him.”
Team JAG decided that they had “softened” the car too much; the changes they had made to the vehicle’s setup for the wet conditions had overcompensated, making it difficult for the Integra to exit corners quickly.
